Corporate Information
Encon Insulation commenced trading from a base in Halifax in September 1981. Founded by two experienced managers previously employed by Cape Insulation Ltd, a manufacturer of rockfibre and glassfibre products.
Recruiting more skilled personnel from manufacturing and distribution led quickly to branches in Manchester, Scotland, Birmingham and Nottingham. While the acquisition of RGS added sought-after locations in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Newcastle and Newmarket.
In 1987, the bold resurrection of manufacturing at the defunct Cape Rocksil plant in Stirling introduced Superglass Insulation to the UK market as a major source of glassfibre product and introduced venture capitalist financial backing to the Encon Group, a facility which was to remain until disposals in 2005.
Having commenced trading primarily as a supplier of specialised insulation to the mechanical services and process sectors (which it has retained), Encon developed its business into all sectors of the construction industry, encompassing supply to merchants, building contractors and housebuilders. At the same, trading with specialist sub-contractors in roofing, suspended ceilings, passive fire protection, acoustics and drywall, expanded substantially with the continued recruitment of skilled sales and techincal personnel.
The venture capitalist company '3 i' acquired a majority shareholding in the Encon Group in 1997 and remained in support of growth until 2005 when Superglass Insulation was sold to the VC-backed management team and Encon Insulation was sold to Wolseley UK.
Since its purchase by Wolseley UK, Encon Insulation has itself embarked on an acquisition strategy, firstly with Nevill Long (a specialist distributor of suspended ceilings and partitions) in April 2006, and again in September 2006 with four independent distributors based in Dublin trading now as Encon Insulation Ireland Ltd.
Further acquisitions are anticipated, with the support of Wolseley UK, to compliment organic growth in the business.
