Building Regulations Part B.
Approved Document B (Fire Safety) 2006
Amendments referring both to dwelling houses and to other buildings came into force in April 2007, affecting how fire safety is designed into new construction, extensions, and material alterations to existing structures.
For domestic buildings, amendments included guidance on loft conversions, and for non-domestic buildings included guidance on care homes and warehousing. A significant change for non-domestic structures – Regulation B16 – ensures that occupiers are made aware of their building’s fire protection measures (both active and passive) to assist in preparing Fire Risk Assessments under the new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order (RRFSO) regime.
The use of fire-resistant and non-combustible materials in construction, as well as the application of fire-stopping products to penetrations and junctions combine to provide compartmentation in buildings. This minimises the risk of spread of fire, and maximises the provision of safety to occupants and to the integrity of the structure.
Encon Insulation and its associate companies provide a fully comprehensive range of structural materials and fire-stopping products to meet the requirements of Approved Document B. All products are supported by rigorous testing and certification to the latest UK and European standards.
